Audi A3 Reviews 2023 Launch Date & Price, Features, Top Speed

Audi A3 Reviews- Despite being the smallest sedan from the German brand, the A3 does not compromise on luxury or driving pleasure for its buyers. It is built on the same platform as the Volkswagen Golf, which ensures lively acceleration, spirited handling, and exceptional build quality. The A3 takes design cues from other models in the Audi portfolio, including the distinctive trapezoidal grille that is a signature feature across the lineup.

The A3’s cabin is greatly influenced by technology, featuring an optional digital gauge cluster and a motorized pop-up infotainment screen. However, the A3 is starting to appear outdated compared to its more contemporary competitors like the Mercedes-Benz A-class, which offer more modern designs and features. We anticipate that the 2020 model year will mark the end of this particular generation of the A3.

Audi A3 Reviews 2023

A3 models with front-wheel drive have been renamed as Sport, while the Quattro all-wheel-drive models are now called S Line. Both versions are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The Sport models produce 184 horsepower, whereas the S Line models generate 228 horsepower. The Premium models now include various upgrades such as 18-inch wheels, a driver-selectable driving-mode system, keyless entry with push-button start, ambient interior lighting, a color driver-information screen between the gauges, new aluminum trim, and black exterior trim.

Opting for the Premium Plus model brings additional features like a Bang & Olufsen audio system, automatic high-beam headlamps, rear-seat USB charging ports, and an interior storage package. Audi has also introduced the Final Edition package for this generation A3, which suggests that it is approaching its end. This package includes leather sport bucket seats, puddle lights that project the Audi logo on the ground outside the front doors when they are opened, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel with shift paddles.

Design

The outer architecture of the new Audi A3 vehicle will be skillfully sculpted and cleverly curved, allowing it to capture light in a way that optimizes its design. The overall shape of the Audi A3 is specifically crafted to enhance aerodynamics and contribute to its performance. For the display, the Audi A3 will feature a 10.1-inch touchscreen as the sole interface, a feature that many critics prefer over the multi-screen system found in current Audi models.

The infotainment system will incorporate physical push buttons and knobs. Additionally, the Audi A3 includes various luxurious features such as tri-zone climate control, heated leather seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a sunroof. Safety features include lane departure warning with steering assist and forward collision warning with automated emergency braking.

Exterior

The A3 sedan has undergone a transformation, adopting Audi’s fresh design language, resulting in a significantly more appealing appearance. Not only is it now longer, wider, and taller than its predecessor, but the roof line has also taken on a coupe-like quality. Despite these changes, the wheelbase remains unaltered.

Moving to the front of the vehicle, Audi’s latest headlamp design is showcased alongside a single-mesh honeycomb grille, which was first introduced in the Q8 model. These innovative headlamps comprise of a pixel array made up of 15 LED segments. When viewed from the side, the three-box design features distinct and well-defined creases that run along its length. At the rear, we can observe elements reminiscent of the downsized A6 aesthetics, including a similar taillamp design, a well-defined boot, and a clean bumper design. Remarkably, the boot size has remained unchanged from its previous iteration.

Interior

The cabin of the new A3 sedan has been completely redesigned and now includes Audi’s latest Virtual Cockpit and a heads-up display. The MMI touchscreen, measuring 10.25 inches, showcases the newest MMI user interface. Additionally, the compact sedan is equipped with all of Audi’s available connectivity features.

Notably, the steering wheel has been updated, the air-vents have been repositioned, and the centre console is now connected to the dashboard in a similar fashion to sports cars. To enhance functionality and aesthetics, the gear lever has been replaced with a small joystick borrowed from the Mk8 Golf. Overall, the cabin of the new A3 sedan exudes a more luxurious and high-end feel compared to its predecessor.

Performance

The new A3 sedan offers two options for its powertrain: two TFSI petrol engines and one TDI diesel engine. However, in India, we are likely to receive the petrol version only. The most probable choice would be the 1.5-litre TFSI motor with a mild-hybrid system and an output of 150bhp. This engine is coupled with a seven-speed DCT transmission and can regenerate over 16bhp through regenerative braking. The German carmaker claims that this setup provides a 10 percent improvement in fuel consumption and reduces CO2 emissions.

Engine

The A3 is expected to come with a standard 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. This engine will be matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive will be the default configuration, although customers can opt for Audi’s renowned Quattro all-wheel drive system. The A3 offers two variations of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which can produce either 184 or 228 horsepower.

Both versions of the engine deliver a smooth and refined performance. In our testing, the more powerful variant propelled an all-wheel-drive A3 sedan from zero to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds when it had a horsepower rating of 220. The steering is precise, the ride quality is composed, and customers can choose to equip their A3 with optional Quattro all-wheel drive for added confidence in all weather conditions.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The A3 Sport models that have front-wheel-drive are the most efficient in terms of fuel consumption, achieving ratings of 27 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined. However, if you opt for all-wheel drive, these estimates drop to 22 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg combined.

It is worth noting that these estimates might be on the conservative side. In fact, during our own test route covering 200 miles on the highway, an all-wheel-drive model achieved an impressive fuel economy of 34 mpg. In comparison, both the BMW 230i xDrive and the Mercedes-Benz A220 4Matic, which are two major rivals to the A3, delivered a slightly higher fuel economy of 35 mpg in the same test.

Interior, Comfort & Cargo

The A3’s interior is just as stylish and well-built as its larger Audi counterparts, but it lacks spaciousness for passengers, even when compared to other compact cars. Despite being smaller and older than the A4 and A6 sedans, the A3 doesn’t compromise on luxury inside its cabin. This lively sedan combines design elements from Audi’s sports cars, such as the TT and R8, with prominent round air vents on the dashboard and an optional digital gauge display.

The trunk of the A3 offers sufficient space – we managed to fit five carry-on suitcases in there – and the rear seats can be folded down to accommodate larger items. However, finding storage areas for smaller items throughout the cabin can be challenging, especially in the center console which lacks space.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The A3 showcases cutting-edge technology, with all models equipped with a 7.0-inch infotainment display that emerges from the dashboard when the car is activated. It can be controlled using a rotary knob on the center console and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, there is an optional 4G LTE-powered Wi-Fi hotspot available. The standard nine-speaker audio system should suffice for most users, but those who prioritize audio quality may prefer the optional 705-watt Bang & Olufsen system, which manages to fit 14 speakers into the compact interior of the A3.

Conclusion

The Audi A3 has received rave reviews from both critics and car enthusiasts alike. With its sleek design, powerful performance, and luxurious interior, the A3 is a standout in its class. Critics have praised its responsive handling, smooth ride, and impressive fuel efficiency. The interior of the A3 is equally impressive, with high-quality materials, advanced technology features, and comfortable seating for all passengers. Whether you’re looking for a sporty sedan or a practical daily driver, the Audi A3 delivers on all fronts. With its combination of style, performance, and comfort, it’s no wonder that the A3 continues to be a top choice in the luxury compact car segment.
