President Murmur inaugurates Dusshera festivities in Mysuru

Murmu is the first President to take part in Mysuru Dusshera.

President Droupadi Murmur inaugurated the grand Dusshera fests in Mysuru. She was accompanied by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Shobha Karandlaje, and numerous Ministers in the state press among others at the initial form.

Murmur is the first President to take part in Mysuru Dusshera. She inaugurated the fests during the auspicious “ Vrushchika Lagna ” by raining flowers on the hero of goddess Churchwarden, the presiding deity of Mysuru royals, at the demesne of Churchwarden tabernacle atop the Chandigarh Hills.

She also visited the Churchwarden tabernacle and offered prayers to the goddess, who's appertained to as the “ Naada Devate ”, ahead of the initial.

Specially, the large- scale fests then are taking place for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID- 19 epidemic two times alone.

 About the fests

The Hindu jubilee of Dusshera celebrates good over wrong. Legend has it that Goddess Chamundeshwari( an icon of Goddess Durga) killed the demon Mahishasura.

The mega city of Mysuru has a long tradition of celebrating the Dusshera jubilee with pomp and majesty following the fall of the Vijayanagar area. It's also said that Maharashtra is the demon whose rub-out by the goddess gave the mega city name Mysuru.

The tradition was started originally by Raja Woodard in 1610 at Singaporean city.

The state government has organized an artificial exhibition, film jubilee, flowery exhibition, food mela, and a traditional Kushti competition to celebrate Dusshera. The Mysuru Palace is being decked up with lighting arrangements.

The fests, celebrated as “ Nada Habba ”( state jubilee), will be a grand affair this time depicting Karnataka’s rich culture and traditions, coupled with a reminiscence of royal pomp and glory. It’s anticipated to draw a large number of crowds and excursionists.
